What Are Phthalates?

What Are Phthalates?

Pthalates are cheap additives that are usually added to cosmetic fragrances to make the scents last longer, but have some negative effects on the human body. According to David Suzuki Organization, "diethyl pthalate... or DEP... interferes with hormone function." They are listed as a Category 1 priority substance in the European Commission on Endocrine Disruption and should generally be avoided where you can. As they have negative effects on children and teens, things like soap and candles should always be pthalate-free.
